My name is Melissa Gorkowski and am currently the Program Director for the pre-k GSRP program. I am currently attending U of M Dearborn to obtain my Master's degree in administration. I received my bachelor's degree from CMU and have been teaching for 5 years. I am engaged to my fiancé Chris and have been busy wedding planning for our August 2014 wedding. I love spending time with my family, working out, gardening, eating ice cream, cheering for U of M, and being outside.
This is my 2nd year at Bradford Academy with the Pre-K program. Last year, we had only one classroom but we have been able to expand it to a total of 4 rooms! We currently use HighScope for our curriculum because children learn best through play. Our day consist of eating breakfast, lunch and snack as a family style meal, having an hour of physical activity, and also choice time. I cannot stress how important meal time is! The students communicate so much during this time and are taught how to use manners to ask for an item. Parents also play a huge part of our program. Parent, you know your child best! Get involved in their schooling early. We are always looking for volunteers to read or even paint with the students. I am truly excited to begin the new school year!
